Measuring Community Green Inequity: A Fine-Scale Assessment of Beijing Urban Area

Green space exposure is beneficial to the physical and mental health of community residents, but spatial distribution green inequitable. Due data availability, equality or justice studies typically use administrative units as contextual areas evaluate spaces exposure, which macro-scale may lead biased estimates it ignores fine-scale (e.g., gardens, lawns), that residents are more frequently exposed to. In this study, we used unit analysis, considered in their daily social activities, obtained on three types including communities, surrounding large-scale parks streetscape images. We propose a series metrics for assessing equity, total 11 major categories morphology, visibility accessibility applied them 4544 communities Beijing urban area. Through visualization, clustering, radar plots, correlation comprehensively analyzed equity at scale, identified cold hot spots homogeneity, then among regions under urbanization process. The measurement results these showed there large differences complementarities between different metrics, similarities exist same category. proposed methodology represents development evaluation system can be by decision makers designers create maintain equitable spaces. addition, large-scale, comprehensive study combined with other such public environmental pollution future obtain conclusions better guide construction regeneration
